Yuchi Naval Base, situated on Guzhen Bay approximately 50 km southwest of Qingdao in Shandong Province, is a rapidly expanding PLAN North Sea Fleet installation that has emerged as one of the most imagery-productive naval monitoring locations in open-source analysis. The facility accommodates nuclear-powered and conventional submarines alongside surface combatants at an extensive pier and submarine-berth complex. Commercial satellite imagery reviewed by the National Maritime Foundation and CSIS has documented a sustained expansion programme including new pier construction, enlarged submarine-support infrastructure, and an increased surface combatant presence. Surface ships — including Type 052D destroyers and Type 054A frigates — are regularly visible alongside the fitting-out piers, while submarine presence indicators include distinctive bow-section outlines at dedicated submarine berths. The base's Shandong location provides strategic access to the Yellow Sea and complements the main Qingdao North Sea Fleet headquarters facility.
